Chicago is home to a unique St. Patrick's Day celebration! The Chicago River is turned green using vegetable dye color between Columbus and Wacker Drives. This popular event kicks off city wide celebration and festivities as revelers parade up Columbus Dr. with floats and flags to the sound of bagpipes.
This parade starts at 12:00pm noon and is about all things Irish including colorful floats, Irish step dancers, marching bands and of course bagpipers! If you want a better view, a good location is toward the start of the parade in Grant Park (Columbus & Balbo).
River Dyeing of the Chicago River begins at 10:00 am. Probably the best viewing spots where to watch the dyeing include:
· East side of the Michigan Avenue Bridge
· West side of the Columbus Drive Bridge
· Along the banks of the Chicago Riverwalk between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive
· Signature bar at Trump International Hotel & Tower
